History of the Journal

The first issue of this journal was published in the fall 2003, under the title “Geography and Regional Development”, as an annex of Journal of Faculty of Letters and Humanities (Scientific Journal). As a special issue of Geography and Regional Development, the second issue was published in the summer of 2004 under the title Journal of Faculty of Letters and Humanities (Scientific Journal). The journal was separated from the Journal of Faculty of Letters and Humanities from the fourth issue and published independently. It was then upgraded to scientific journal from the fifth issu.

Aims and Scope
Aims and scope of Journal of Geography and Regional Development

Considering the concepts mentioned in the title of the journal, the scope of the journal includes diverse issues related to geographical sciences. The main mission of the journal is publishing articles that can identify, analyze, and offer effective solutions to a significant problem in the field of geographical sciences. The articles should be related to the topics specified by the journal and have not presented in any conference or published by another journal or magazine. Some of the main themes of this journal are:

Regional development
Social geography
Urbanization and globalization
Sustainable rural development
Rural housing
Urban and rural management
Diversity of rural economy
 

Purposes and vision

Journal of Geography and Regional Development aims to enhance the readership’s knowledge on theoretical and practical foundations of the role of geography in regional development through receiving, reviewing and publishing professors, researchers, and students’ scientific works. The journal tries to share with all researchers, students, managers and policy makers, the latest scientific findings that can contribute to solving geographical problems in various parts of Iran. Publishing electronic version of the articles on the journal’s database/website would be an important means for achieving the goals and the vision of the journal. Accordingly, the priorities and policies of the journal are as follows:

Publishing and sharing applied and basic research on rural, urban, and regional planning purposes
Developing and promoting practical methods of simultaneous and continuous applying geographical sciences to rural, regional, and urban planning and management
Offering practical solutions to solve the main problems of rural, regional, and urban living environment in a way that improve the well-being and satisfaction of residents and consequently prevent the excessive expansion of cities
